Working in groups I and my team mates created and produced a radio advert as part of our preliminary task. Our aim was to gain valuable skills and to assist us in our overall aim of making an actual advertisement. Our task was to create and produce a radio advert for .

I used various tools during the creation process including Adobe Audition. This allowed me to develop and harness my editing skills in preparation for my final task. I also used the sound studio's , recording the actor/actresses voices and completing a mixdown session. I also produced a drafted script for our advert which also helped me in the planning process.

Below is the final product.

Newspaper Advertising Campaign - Poster

Below is my finished poster.

Newspaper Advertising Campaign - Research and Planning.

Newspaper Poster Advertising Campaign

Planning and Research

I carried out research into the advertising campaign implemented by newspapers , focusing specifically on posters. However most modern newspapers do not advertise via poster campaigns.

A common theme which is consistent throughout the advertisings is the lack of words. Both the ‘The Times’ and the ‘The Guardian’ poster campaigns incorporate short simple phrases or messages followed by the name of the newspaper and an image. This Is due to various reasons, but the main factor is the situation where it is advertised. The majority of the posters I found where advertised on the high street , the incorporation of a short phrase or message is a method used to catch potential customers attention because they do not have time to stand a read a lengthy text.

Another feature which is consistently incorporated in poster campaigns is an image. The majority of campaigns do not feature an image of the newspaper itself, but something which symbolises or represents the paper.

Advertisement Planning and Construction

During my newspaper analysis , I also analysed the advertisements found on the front and first page of the newspaper. This was in order to gain an understanding into which companies/businesses and the genre's of the said corporations advertise on the front of newspapers. I also was interested in which corporation would fit into my newspaper and where the advertisement would be placed.

I eventually chose a restaurant to take the advertising place on the front page. I choice this because the restaurant is local , therefore tying into my newspapers locality. The advertisement also appeals to a large varying target audience. This lead to my decision to place this business as my main advertisement.

Below is a copy of the advertisement.

Construction of Masthead.

I constructed two versions of my newspaper's masthead. I did this in order to compare which masthead would fit in with the over-all look of my newspaper.

Below are the two mastheads.

1.

2.

Final Layout Design

I have chosen my final draft. The reason behind this choice was during a newspaper focus group amongst my target audience , the said layout draft was the choice of the majority. Therefore I decided that this draft is the final layout chosen.

Below is the final layout.

Questionnaire Feedback

As I have received my data in the form of questionnaires back I can now analyse the data. I have collated the results into charts using Microsoft Excel. I will now identify trends in the data, and conventions that I will be expected to apply to my newspaper. The result is shown below.

Newspaper Planning - Fonts and Layout Design.

Fonts and Layout Design

I have started to plan layouts for my newspaper front page. For this I have used Microsoft Publisher and constructed up basic plans and drafts for my newspaper. I have also constructed conventional and un-conventional newspaper layouts and i will choose in favour of one.

In each, I aim for a large logo/title name to become a semiotic sign of my newspaper brand for easy identification. The newspaper will be a conventional one , and will stick to existing features implemented in other newspapers. I will then select the draft that is the most effective in comparison with my target audience. I will then begin to construct detailed drafts of the front cover and first page in order to gain feedback before i commence with the final design.

Below are drafts of fonts and layouts.
